Manchester United vs Brighton prediction and odds: Erik ten Hag can get off to winning start

Brighton have never won at Old Trafford and the hosts can extend that sequence in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Sunday afternoon

Eric ten Haig has become Manchester United's eighth manager since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 and has a task at hand if he is to capsize last season's sinking ship.

The signs for the pre-season games have been largely promising and it seems the former Ajax boss is instilling the sense of discipline and team ethic that this group of players so desperately need. However, personnel clearly still remains an issue as there is no doubt that the side needs upgradation in several departments, most importantly in the central midfield.

Cristiano Ronaldo's position is doing the club no favors with the manager and his teammates and it will probably be in everyone's best interest if he can secure a move away from Old Trafford.

It's really hard to know what to expect from United this season. Progress is inevitable, but it won't be easy, as all the sides around them in the Premier League have strengthened over the summer. That said, United should start their new season with a win against a Brighton side that has never won in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

United are 8/13 favorites with Betway to take three points on Sunday, while the Seagulls are 9/2, which will be an upset despite United's current plight.

Brighton finished in the top ten in the previous stint, scoring just seven points less than United, and although they are not exactly undeterred defensively, they have thanks in no small part to some tremendous performances from goalkeeper Robert Sánchez. Cause, racked up eleven clean sheets.

However, the Seagulls have lost two of their best players in the summer to midfield Dynamo Yves Bisouma and left-back Mark Cucurella, and Paraguay's strike takeover Julio Enquiso will prove to be a very smart piece of business if Brighton is to be retained. To improve on his 1.1 goals per game from last season.

Manchester United vs Brighton prediction

Brighton managed to avoid defeat in 15 of their 19 away games last season and it's been on the road that they have been most effective, so this isn't likely to be an easy opener for United despite the optimism surrounding the new manager.

However, Brighton's record at Old Trafford is poor and Graham Potter's side won't find it easy to operate to the same level as they did last season without Bissouma and Cucurella in their ranks, so this might just be a good time to host the Seagulls.

It's going to take time for ten Hag to drill this team to the levels he wants to get to but the signs have been promising in pre-season and if the new boss can get Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho firing as a front three — although the Frenchman will likely be out injured against Brighton — then United can begin to head back in the right direction.

United should come flying out of the blocks so let's enhance that 8/13 win price by backing Ten Hag's side to be in front at both half-time and full-time. United/United in the HT/FT market is 7/5 and that feels like a decent wager here.
