Jagdeep Dhankhar: The total number of members of both the houses of Parliament together is 788, out of which eight seats of the Upper House are currently vacant. In such a situation, 780 MPs were eligible to vote in the Vice Presidential election.

Jagdeep Dhankhar: NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar has won the election of Vice President. Jagdeep Dhankhar won the Vice Presidential election by defeating the opposition candidate Margaret Alva. Jagdeep Dhankhar got 582 votes and Margaret Alva got 182 votes. Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal K Singh said that NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar got 528 votes out of total 725 votes and opposition candidate Margaret Alva got 182 votes. NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar won by 346 votes.15 votes were declared invalid. A total of 92.94 percent voter turnout was recorded in the Vice-President's election.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, many Union Ministers and MPs of different parties voted for the Vice Presidential election. Voting began at 10 am and ended at 5 pm. Prime Minister Modi was among the first MPs to cast their vote. Sharing a picture related to voting, he tweeted that he voted in the 2022 Vice Presidential election.

The Trinamool Congress had already announced that it would abstain from voting. It has a total of 39 MPs in both the houses. The total number of members of the two houses of Parliament together is 788, out of which eight seats of the Upper House are currently vacant. BJP's chief whip Rakesh Singh, YSR Congress Party's Raghu Rama Krishna Raju and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MPs also cast their votes in the Lok Sabha.
